A member of the All People’s Congress APC party has written a letter to the Chairman of the Political Party Registration Commission on his intervention in the conduct of the Interim Transition Governance Committee (ITGC).
The writer Hon. Alimamy Coleson Turay starts by thanking the commissioner for his intervention extended to stakeholders of the APC party.
“I write to thank you and your commission for your invitation extended to stakeholders of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party to update us on present conditions and conducts of the ITGC as of date”.
The writer further states the main reason for addressing the chairman of PPRC.
“What follows below are the reasons for my acceptance to same”.
“Mr. Chairman, I may not know your reason for not inviting the former Chairman (Ernest Bai Koroma) and current chairman (Alfred Peter Conteh) to such a high-level profile meeting, and I also have some reservations about that but will explain later as I proceeded.
Mr. Chairman, the ITGC, as we all know, is a creation of the Court of Sierra Leone, whereas the APC Party is an institution specifically created for governance and politics in Sierra Leone that operates according to the dictates of the laws of Sierra Leone (i.e Constitution of Sierra Leone Act #6 of 1991).
Mr. Chairman, I must also remind you of the fact that as it stands now, the All People’s Congress Party has only one National Chairman tasked with the responsibilities to oversee the affairs of the party, and that one person is Mr. Alfred, Peter Conteh. Due respect must be accorded to him more so when he is overseeing the highest office of our party and has been given such a mandate by the High Court of Sierra Leone.
Mr. Chairman, It was a wise decision from the Judge to recommend that eight Members of parliament who are the people’s representatives be members of the ITGC and four other members representing four major organs of the APC party. Since the formation of the ITGC, we have seen on many occasions some of these members mentioned trying to erode the judgment of the Court. The preconceived and egoistic behaviors of a few so-called stakeholders of the party have led to some of these unsavory developments within the Party arising out of uncomplimentary conduct, misinterpretations, and/or misgivings about the ITGC that are impairing the “health and well-being” of the general membership of the APC.
Mr. Chairman, I will like to bring to your notice that your commission, and without exception of other front-line agencies who directly or indirectly are guiding or supporting the implementation of the court need to be more cooperative with the works of the party and the duties bestowed on the chairman of the ITGC as this is a court mandate.
Mr. Chairman, let me hasten to tell you the fact that, since the formation of the ITGC, your commission has been a serious stumble block that has been fueling and nursing the division in the ITGC. I have noticed from a few documents I read coming from your commission to the committee have always been predicated on division. In your latest report on the APC party’s lower-level elections rules and regulations, you deliberately divided the committee to be seen as 12 and 9. This to me seems like a deliberate ploy to undermine the unity we want to ferment in this very party of ours. I must put it bluntly to you that your commission continues to sow discord in this very committee thereby tolerating insubordination, confusion, and disorder in the ITGC by tolerating parallel executives. Just a gentle reminder Mr. Chairman: the letter to ECSL copied to the international committees written by Abdul kargbo; the persistent issuing of press releases without reference to the chairman for discussion prior. Please do not also forget the court injunction matter filled by Alpha Jalloh using their law firm B&J. Partners.
Mr. Chairman, you have on several occasions conceded to the fact that you have no jurisdiction over the ITGC, but the burning question that I may want to ask you is; why is it that you always try to interfere in the affairs of this very committee that you have no powers over. Whether the ITGC is not a regular organ of the APC Party or not, I must be true to my conscience to tell you that it is not under your purview to dictate the affairs of the ITGC. Knowing fully your limitations over the ITGC, I may now recommend the following going forward:
Your commission must assist the Chairman and, by
extension, the ITGC to implement the Rulings of Hon. Mr. Justice Adrian Fischer.
These selected stakeholders must meet with the former and present Chairman and members of the ITGC immediately after your meeting
Since the ITGC is the present highest organ of the APC Party before the NDC, we must encourage the present Chairman and members of the ITGC to meet this team and the leadership of parliament in order, to encourage and or replace members who are not attending meetings as soon as possible.
The selected stakeholders of APC must volunteer to attend ITGC meetings as observers. And in addition, members approved by the Chairman and the ITGC must interface with different factions of the party to promote unity and peace within the Party.
This team, if possible, must be charged with the responsibility of mediating the withdrawal of any pending legal matters before the Hon. Justice Adrian Fischer.
