Gambian President Adama Barrow is on record for violating the coalition agreement they went into with other parties to remove the dictator Yahya Jammeh out of power.
According to the agreement, they should present a single candidate who shall govern for three years only, and then, call for an early election in which the president can’t present himself for reelection.
If rumours making the rounds within the political corridors that COPPP are lobbying around the APC party for a single presidential candidate to contest against President Julius Maada Bio come 2023 is anything to go by, then there are all indications that it will be faced with the strongest of resistance from all quarters of the APC party including the diaspora.
Their new slogan dubbed “BOT GAME”, is nothing but a well calculated plan to seek for appointments in the event that the APC emerges victorious in 2023.
Meanwhile, political commentators have argued that the COPPP will add no value to the APC party because they themselves haven’t made any relevant political inroads in the country since the last election in 2018.
As its now a matter of days for the new constitution of the APC party to come into effect and there’s already a date set by NEC for voter registration and all other elections, what the COPPP needs now is to stop the roaming and go into all levels of their conventions ASAP, as time isn’t on their side.
Meanwhile, what APC needs now is absolute peace and reconciliation and not a COPPP Coalition. I hoped common sense shall prevail!
