Asmaa James, former prominent journalist from Radio Democracy now serving as Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to Belgium with accreditation to Luxembourg, Netherlands, Greece, the Vatican, and the European Union, has publicly shared her reflections on her transition to a career in diplomacy.
“It has been an incredible six months since I transitioned from my journalism career to diplomacy.”
In a recent post on her social media platform, Ambassador James expressed gratitude for her journey and acknowledged the guidance she has received. She noted that her new role has makes it necessary to adapting to new ways of thinking and communicating, which she believes has significantly deepened her understanding of the complex world of international relations.
“This experience has provided me with an excellent learning opportunity. As a former journalist, I now have to adapt to new ways of thinking and communicating, which has deepened my understanding of the complex world of international relations.”
Ambassador James further stated that she has experienced unforeseen personal and professional growth in this new capacity and conveyed her enthusiasm for continuing to make a positive impact in her role as Deputy Ambassador.
She also extended her sincere appreciation to her family and to President Julius Maada Bio for entrusting her with the opportunity to serve Sierra Leone on the international stage.
