Sierra Leone’s African Young Voice (AYV) Media has engaged the country’s Minister of Trade and industry on price control issues in Sierra Leone
The minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Hinga Sandi, on issues surrounding price control in sierra leone, stated that they have a policy in place to monitor the price of commodities. Wherein they work with importers who bring large quantities of commodities into the country.
The minister stated that the main reason for the rise in prices of commodities is because of the dynamism at which the level of prices in the international market has been going up.
In the discussion with Amadu Lamrana Bah, Dr. Sandy made mentioned that for instant the price of cement has been going up regularly in the international market, also freight cost is high, and all this scenario put together most times cause importers to increase the price of commodities
With commodities produced Locally, Dr.Sandi said mostly when Energy price increases it affects the price of transportation which in turn affects the prices of Locally produced commodities
He further that natural circumstances also sometimes influenced the price of commodities, adding that Sierra Leone usually suffers greatly from high food prices, especially during rainy seasons when prices of basic food commodities including the staple rice usually go through the roof.
