Sierra Leonean Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has highlighted the longstanding friendship between Sierra Leone and China, noting its significant achievements across various sectors.

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua ahead of President Julius Maada Bio’s forthcoming state visit to China, Bah emphasized the robustness of this crucial relationship and its diverse advantages.

Bah underscored the multitude of ways in which the friendship between the two nations has materialized, emphasizing the depth of cooperation. He particularly highlighted the pivotal role of human capital exchange, which continues to generate mutual benefits and holds promise for future growth.

Expressing gratitude to China for its substantial assistance in addressing Sierra Leone’s infrastructure needs, Bah cited tangible examples such as the construction of roads, bridges, and important buildings. He noted the visible improvements in the lives of Sierra Leoneans resulting from Chinese investments.

Commending China’s Belt and Road Initiative and other initiatives, Bah recognized their potential to benefit not only the Global South but also regions beyond. He highlighted China’s prompt provision of medical assistance during crises such as the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks, underscoring the depth of bilateral cooperation.

Under President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership, Sierra Leone has prioritized development in crucial areas such as food security, youth empowerment, technology, and infrastructure. Bah expressed the nation’s desire for a strengthened partnership with China, acknowledging China’s expertise in areas vital to Sierra Leone’s progress.

Looking ahead, Bah expressed hope for significant investments in President Bio’s priority sectors during his upcoming state visit to China. He envisioned a transformative journey for Sierra Leone, aspiring to industrialize the nation and integrate cutting-edge technologies with China’s support.
