Myk Berewa, Director of Communications at the State House, has provided evidence to clarify the claim made by APC’s Minkailu Koroma regarding the establishment of the Kono University of Science and Technology.

Berewa, in a social media post, stated that Koroma argued that the APC was the one who secured the funding for the establishment and construction of Kono University during the former President Ernest Bai Koroma’s regime. He described Koroma’s statement as unfortunate and misleading.

Berewa disclosed that himself and Koroma had an intense exchange on Liberty TV Online, while comparing progress made by the past and current administrations in the country.

Berewa shared a press release from the Government of Sierra Leone dated July, 22 2020 with the title “Funds Approved for the Establishment of the University of Science & Technology in Kono.

The first paragraph of the public notice reads: “President, His Excellency, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, made a commitment to establish a University of Science and Technology in the Kono District, Eastern Sierra Leone. In fulfilment of that commitment, the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) is pleased to inform the public that the ECOWAS Bank of Investment and Development has approved initial funding to the tune of 32 Million United States Dollars for the construction of the University of Science and Technology in Kono District.
