His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio is set to officially launch three major agricultural initiatives today in Kambia District, marking a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to achieve food security and agricultural transformation.

The event will feature the official unveiling of the 2nd Year Report of the Feed Salone Initiative, the launch of the new Rural Farm Radio 98.9 FM, and the inauguration of a landmark $150 million Livestock Development Project.

These initiatives form part of the government’s broader commitment to modernize the agricultural sector, enhance rural livelihoods, and promote self-sufficiency in food production.

The Feed Salone Initiative, introduced by President Bio in 2023, is the government’s flagship agricultural programme aimed at boosting local food production, reducing import dependence, and improving farmers’ access to resources, markets, and technology. The second-year report is expected to highlight progress made in mechanization, seed distribution, irrigation, and youth engagement in agriculture.

The launch of Rural Farm Radio 98.9 FM will further complement these efforts by providing farmers with timely agricultural information, weather updates, and market prices, while also serving as a platform for education, innovation, and community engagement in rural farming practices.

In addition, the newly announced $150 million Livestock Development Project represents one of the largest investments in Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector in recent years. The project will focus on improving animal husbandry, veterinary services, and meat and dairy production, while creating jobs and strengthening food security across rural communities.

As part of today’s activities, President Bio will also initiate the distribution of new crop varieties to farmers for testing and adoption.

This initiative aims to introduce high-yield and climate-resilient crops, supporting the government’s vision of transforming agriculture into a sustainable and technology-driven sector.
