As Sierra Leone heads towards presidential and parliamentary elections on June 24, the incumbent president, Dr Julius Maada Bio has taken a bold step to join hands with a strong former member of the NGC, Hon Kandeh Yumkella.

President Julius Maada Bio, announced on Wednesday 12th April, 2023 that himself and the Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh met with Yumkella at the State House, Freetown.

He disclosed that they discussed various development and governance issues facing the nation, during which they exchanged ideas on ways of promoting their Government’s people-oriented policies and agreed on the need to build a progressive alliance to advance transformative development and strengthen national cohesion.

President Bio’s decision came few weeks to the country’s election.

This sparked good comments from the people including the Sierra Leone High Commission UK, who saw the step as a progressive move and a very welcomed one in the right direction.

The Sierra Leone High Commission UK, said Sierra Leone needs all progressives to come together on a single platform and push our country forward, noting that democracy is not about fermenting chaos from the fringes, it is about building bridges to move the nation.

Meanwhile, Hon Kandeh Yumkella, whom had fought tirelessly to take out the two strong parties (APC and SLPP) which he believed had destroyed the nation, said he has now reached a crucial turning point in his country’s political history, where he prioritize peace and set aside personal ambitions for a better Salone.

He said putting Salone first is what’s matters the most, noting that it is when we put our country first, that it will  be developed.
