President Julius Maada Bio, a practicing Catholic, joined Sierra Leone’s Muslim community for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Presidential Lodge.

The event, also attended by notable political figures including Presidential Spokesman Alpha Kanu, Former Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana, former Minister of Energy Hon. Kanja Sesay, and members of both the ruling SLPP and opposition APC parties, marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

First Lady Fatima Bio, who is Muslim, highlighted the significance of the occasion, stating, “Today marked a significant event in the history of Sierra Leone as my husband, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, a devout Catholic Christian, joined me and the Muslim community to observe the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer at the Presidential Lodge.”

She emphasized the event as “a powerful reminder of Sierra Leone’s dedication to maintaining religious tolerance, a cornerstone for peace and progress within any society.” The First Lady extended warm Eid-ul-Fitr wishes to all Muslims, praying for divine blessings and forgiveness.

President Bio also shared his Eid greetings, writing, “Our Muslim community have reached an incredible milestone in their faith as Muslims! Happy Eid ul-Fitr! As we celebrate the culmination of this year’s holy month of Ramadan, let’s seek Allah’s blessings and peace to be with us always. From my family to yours, Eid Mubarak!”

The presence of prominent political figures from across the political spectrum underscored the message of national unity and religious harmony, further solidifying Sierra Leone’s reputation for fostering interfaith understanding.
