As Sierra Leone lays to rest the fallen security personnel who died during the failed coup on November 26th, tributes have been pouring in from different personalities and organizations for the fallen heroes.
The country’s President, Dr Julius Maada Bio, has also sent a heartfelt tribute message to honor and remember these fallen personalities.
Read his tribute message below:
“This afternoon, I joined other mourners and sympathizers to pay my last respects to the fallen Heroes of the failed coup attempt of November 26th 2023.
The 18 Gallant Officers stood steadfast in the face of treachery.
They paid the ultimate sacrifice by standing fearlessly against the forces of anarchy and tyranny that threatened to engulf our country.
Each one of them pledged to defend our Constitution and nation. Their unwavering commitment to their duty, loyalty to our country and steadfast courage in the face of danger will forever be etched in our hearts.
They were not just our Military, Police and Correctional Officers. They were guardians of our peace, defenders of our democracy, protectors of our freedom, and embodiments of our unwavering spirit.
Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will forever be written in the annals of our history.
Our nation grieves, our hearts bleed, our memories cling to these Heroes. We will not forget; we cannot forget.
As the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, I used the occasion to make a solemn pledge that the death of our comrades and the continued service and loyalty of our Officers to Sierra Leone will not be in vain.
Everyone who has a hand in the cowardly act of November 26th that led to the death of our brave compatriots will not escape the full weight of the law.
On behalf of every Sierra Leonean, I offer the bereaved families of our fallen heroes, our deepest condolences and as a nation, we share in your loss and pain.
May the brave souls of our Gallant Officers find eternal peace. May their sacrifice echo through the ages as a testament to their unyielding courage and our nation’s relentless pursuit of justice and peace.
Long Live The Republic of Sierra Leone.”
