President Julius Maada Bio has described the National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Jimmy Batilo Songa, as a “battle-tested” leader whose loyalty, discipline, and commitment to the party have been proven over time.
The President called on party members to unite behind the chairman and respect the party’s leadership structure in order to safeguard unity and electoral success.
Speaking to party members, President Bio said Chairman Batilo’s loyalty to the SLPP has been tested and proven, his discipline remains unquestionable, and his dedication to the ideals and progress of the party is unwavering. He noted that these qualities are especially critical at a time when the party must remain focused and united.
President Bio explained that under the party’s leadership structure, the National Chairman is responsible for coordinating and managing the activities of the SLPP, while he, as party leader and President of the Republic, provides overall political direction. He warned that the party functions best when this order is respected.
He urged all SLPP members to support and work closely with the chairman, calling on them to strengthen his authority. According to the President, the strength and stability of the party depend largely on the firmness of the chairman, adding that when the chairman stands firm, the party also stands firm. Such stability, he said, allows him to devote his full attention to the responsibilities of state.
The President stressed that leadership is sustained and unity protected when party members respect democratic structures, describing this approach as the foundation of the party’s past victories.
“Fellow members of our great party, our greatest victories have never come from noise,” President Bio said, adding that the party’s success has always been built on unity, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose.
He further stated that the SLPP is strongest when it moves as one, guided by principles rather than provocations, and by order rather than impulse. He called on members to recommit themselves to discipline in their language, respect in their disagreements, and unity in their mission.
President Bio also cautioned that there is only one SLPP agenda, stressing that internal confusion and division weaken the party. He said that when leadership order is respected, the party remains steady, and when the party is steady, it becomes unstoppable.
