On Thursday, 3 April 2025, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio swore in Dr. Abdul Rahim Jalloh as Sierra Leone’s new Minister of Energy 2 at State House in Freetown.

During the ceremony, the President spoke about his government’s strong focus on improving energy access and supporting sustainable energy across the country.

Mr. John Sumaila, the Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, explained that Dr. Jalloh’s appointment had been approved by Parliament after President Bio made the recommendation. Following this, the President administered the oath of office to the new Minister.

Dr. Jalloh expressed his gratitude to President Bio for the opportunity to serve in such a crucial role. He recognized the challenges ahead but assured everyone that he would work to ensure energy is accessible to all Sierra Leoneans.

President Bio congratulated Dr. Jalloh and promised his full support as he took on the responsibilities of the position. The President also encouraged the new minister to tap into the expertise available to him in order to address the challenges in the energy sector.

With more than 40 years of experience in the energy field, both nationally and internationally, Dr. Jalloh is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and play a key role in improving Sierra Leone’s energy sector.
