Passengers of Air Peace (P47760) departing from Lagos to Freetown were left stranded airborne due to blackout at Lungi International Airport on Friday night 6th January 2023.
Sierraloaded learnt that the flight left Lagos at 6:20pm GMT+1 and was supposed to land 2hours 45minutes later but was left stranded mid-air for over 30 minutes before landing after the pilot was notified that there was no power at Lungi Airport.
One of the passengers told Sierraloaded that they were orbiting in the sky for over 30 minutes.
“Later, the pilot told us that there was not enough fuel and that we need to go and land in Conakry,” the passenger said.
The passenger said that they were halfway to Conakry when the pilot was notified from Freetown that power has been restored and had to risk returning with little fuel.
“So, our pilot said he was not certain the fuel in the plane can take us to Lungi” he said.
The flight eventually landed at Lungi Airport -escaping a near horror disaster.
