Bo City Council has officially announced the list of successful applicants for the Youth Climate Action Fund micro grant being a sponsorship from Bloomberg Philanthropies to 101 cities across the world including Bo City in Sierra Leone.

It was revealed that the fund is to support youth-led climate change solutions in the city that will be of greater help in having a positive impact on the city.

In his statement, the Project manager, Samuel Hinga Navo revealed that the Council has gone through some stages of the project which include the announcement of the grant, the call for proposals which was open from June 1st to 21st 2024, evaluation of proposals and that this gathering was meant for the official announcement of youth community-based organizations who fulfilled the set criteria to get the fund, adding that, the ideas proposed to the council for the fund included waste recycling, illegal dump site clearing, door-to-door waste management, tree planting, planting of ornaments, among others. He charged winners to implement judiciously as “proper implementation shall help save our already damaged environment.”

His Worship the Mayor of Bo City, Kobba Musa in his official opening statement maintained that Michael Bloomberg aims to create a positive impact in different parts of the world by catering for lasting solutions in diverse fields which include the environment, and thus his dream must be kept alive in Bo City.

In his announcement of the winners he stated that the Forum for Agriculture Innovation and Empowerment for Children and Youths Sierra Leone (FAIECY), Klin Bo Services, United Youth Development Association, Ndeguloma Agricultural and Development Organization(N.A.D.O ), People’s Right Integrity and Dignity Empowerment – Sierra Leone (PRIDE SL), Muloma Enterprise and General Services, Elevate 2060 Movement Sierra Leone, Green Leone, Soba Wan Pot and Coal Pot Enterprise, Youth in Agriculture Environmental and Anti Violence, Anbert Investment and General Services, and Community Development Association (CODA) as the successful ones form this year’s fund grant.

He stated that the grants as per their budgets will be remitted into the bank accounts of the organizations by first week in August, 2024, adding that, the project team shall fully monitor implementations so as to ensure full compliance with set guidelines and the proposals written in implementation with the Youth Climate Action Fund from August to September 2024.
