H.E. Josephine Gauld, the newly appointed British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, recently shared her insights from her visits to Bo, Kenema, and Makeni during an interview on AYV’s Wake Up Sierra Leone morning program.
Since assuming her role in September 2024, H.E. Gauld has prioritized understanding the country beyond the capital.
Expressing her eagerness to explore Sierra Leone, she stated, “I was keen to get out and see a little bit more of Sierra Leone as early as I could.
It was nice to meet the different authorities, including some of the Paramount Chiefs, regional ministers, and mayors. It provided a valuable opportunity to hear about the developments in various cities.”
During her travels, H.E. Gauld visited several projects supported by the UK government, including electricity initiatives and healthcare facilities.
Notably, she toured a special care baby unit at Kenema Hospital, where she engaged with mothers and learned about their experiences.
“I had the chance to meet some of the mothers, understand where they’re traveling from, and hear how they feel about having that kind of facility in their community,” she added.
H.E. Gauld’s appointment follows the tenure of H.E. Lisa Chesney, who has taken on another diplomatic role. As the new High Commissioner, Gauld aims to strengthen ties between the UK and Sierra Leone while supporting developmental projects that enhance local communities.
