Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has confirmed the credibility and Independence of the inflation data produced by Statistics Sierra Leone, during his weekly press conference held this week.
He encouraged the audience to trust the data produced whether the inflation is increasing or decreasing.
Speaking at the Press Conference, Minister Bah said that the recent decline in the country’s inflation rate, and the stability of the exchange rate is supported by the reliable data Statistics Sierra Leone collected.
“If you had believed the inflation rate data when it was up, you should also believe the same data when the inflation is down,” he said.
Statistics Sierra Leone compiles the Consumer Price Index monthly from markets across the country. According to Bah, this process ensures accuracy and objectivity, making the inflation data both independent and credible. He said that there are some sectors that are still experiencing rise inflation, whilst other sectors are experiencing decrease. This, he said is an evidence that the data is not false.
“If we were cheating, wouldn’t I have said that prices are always decreasing across all sectors?” he asked. “Independent, credible data,” he said.
Minister Bah also addressed concerns about government intervention in market prices.
“The government doesn’t just come and interfere with marketing arbitrarily. We need to work with all the players to ensure that any intervention to protect consumers does not harm businesses,” he said.
How fools continue to argue over inflation. I believe inflation rate indicates how FAST or SLOW (consumer prices) are changing over TIME, no? It doesn’t tell us how HIGH or LOW the prices are. Therefore inflation rate can be low but prices are still high.
Minister Bah is right about what he said. Prices in products are reducing, though the differences are not greater. Let’s hope to Allah and trust in president Bio’s government, Insha’Allah things will be fine one day. Allah bless Mama Salone🇸🇱🤲🏼
