The Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has provided an update on the swift progress being made in implementing the Agreement of National Unity and the reforms recommended by the Tripartite Committee.
Speaking on the matter, Chief Minister Sengeh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to following through on these crucial national reforms.
During a series of meetings, Chief Minister Sengeh outlined ongoing efforts, beginning with his engagement with representatives from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU).
These discussions focused on the functional and management reviews currently underway at the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL), a partnership supported by USAID.
The project is expected to deliver an actionable report by February 2024, offering a roadmap for the future of the Commission. Alongside this, the PSRU is set to benefit from technical assistance and capacity building from its international partners, as part of the broader reform agenda.
Sengeh noted that significant steps have already been taken, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the completion of inception meetings, and the establishment of a timetable for moving forward.
He also highlighted that other government institutions are well advanced in their own reform processes, with continuous engagement planned to ensure transparency and public awareness.
Chief Minister Sengeh, alongside a cross-section of ministers, met with key development partners to explore ways to enhance collaboration on the implementation of over 80 recommendations outlined in the Tripartite Report.
These reforms are essential to advancing national unity and governance in Sierra Leone.
“As President Bio consistently emphasizes, we are fully committed to implementing these recommendations and completing the ongoing constitutional reforms,” said Chief Minister Sengeh.
The government’s focus on structural reforms and collaboration with international partners demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring long-term stability, transparency, and democratic governance in Sierra Leone.
