The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone donated a consignment of food items to local Muslim communities on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
The donation, facilitated through the Ministry of Social Welfare, is aimed at supporting vulnerable populations across the country during the festive period.
The official handover event was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Zhao Yong, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Hon. Mohamed Haji-Kella, and several prominent leaders from local religious organizations.
During his address, Ambassador Zhao extended “Eid Mubarak” wishes to the Muslim community. He emphasized that the embassy’s donation was specifically designed to assist local religious groups in their efforts to provide essential support to less privileged individuals and communities.
Receiving the food items on behalf of the Muslim community, Deputy Minister Haji-Kella expressed profound appreciation for the embassy’s continued partnership with Sierra Leone.
He praised the Chinese government for what he described as a “timely and generous contribution,” noting that the food supplies will significantly help improve the livelihoods of local residents during the holiday.
