Abdul A.M Fatoma, Chief Executive Officer of CHRDI, recently took part in a pivotal two-day high-level policy forum on free movement in Africa, held in Accra, Ghana, from April 18th to 19th, 2024.

The forum convened with the primary objective of bolstering the political and technical resolve and capabilities of African Union (AU) Member States for the ratification and domestication of the Free Movement Protocol (FMP) across the continent.

Discussions during the forum delved into the array of challenges and opportunities entwined with the concept of free movement in Africa, as well as the strides made towards the ratification of the FMP protocol.

At its core, the Free Movement Protocol stands as a legal framework initiated by the AU, geared towards fostering visa-free movement and aligning immigration policies among member states.

The overarching aim is to invigorate regional integration and spur socioeconomic development throughout the African continent.

By promoting the unfettered movement of people, goods, and services, the FMP aspires to catalyze economic growth and foster social progress across Africa.

The event itself was orchestrated and generously supported by the African Union’s Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (AU ECOSOCC) in collaboration with the Open Society Foundation.

The active participation of leaders such as Abdul A.M Fatoma underscores a collective commitment towards advancing the vision of a more interconnected and prosperous Africa. #AU_ECOSOCC #OpenSociety
