According to Satellite Newspaper, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has officially invited the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lawrence Kai Mbayo, to its headquarters in Freetown to answer questions about false accusations he made against Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.

Sources indicate that Mbayo is being called in to explain his involvement in spreading claims that Vice President Jalloh supported a Lebanese businessman, Jiad Basma, who allegedly purchased a diamond unlawfully.

The Deputy Minister’s public statements have stirred controversy, as he repeatedly commented on the issue despite the case being charged to court.

In his accusations, Mbayo claimed that the diamond sold to Basma was his legitimate property and insinuated that the Vice President had a hand in facilitating its illegal purchase. However, police sources have clarified that the diamond was in fact owned by a foreign businessman involved in mining in Kono District, contradicting Mbayo’s assertions.

Many observers have condemned Mbayo’s comments as an attempt to damage the reputation of Vice President Jalloh. Citizens have raised concerns about the timing of the accusations, with some speculating that it was a deliberate move to undermine the Vice President’s standing in the public eye.

As the investigation continues, the CID will seek clarity on Mbayo’s actions and whether any legal breaches occurred.
