The Central One Football Association (COFA) has announced that its football competitions will proceed as scheduled, despite a suspension notice issued by the Western Area Football Association (WAFA).

COFA Chairman Philipson Cline-Cole confirmed that the Non-Division League, currently at the quarter-final stage, will continue without interruption. He also reaffirmed that the Inter-Community League is set to commence on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Earlier this week, WAFA Secretary Benjamin Gordon Esq. issued a press release suspending COFA’s Inter-Community League, citing administrative irregularities and non-compliance with WAFA directives. The association stated that the decision was intended to ensure transparency and proper governance within local football.

Responding to WAFA’s decision, Cline-Cole maintained that COFA operates independently and will not alter its plans. He explained that Bambara Town and Fourah Town communities were excluded from the upcoming competition for failing to meet COFA’s league requirements.

“Any team or community wishing to participate must comply with COFA rules. If they cannot, they are not eligible to compete in our leagues,” Cline-Cole stated.

Despite the ongoing dispute, COFA emphasized its commitment to promoting football in the region, ensuring fair competition, and upholding its internal regulations.
