A recent drop in fuel prices at the NP fuel station has brought relief to drivers and commuters who depend on fuel for travel.
Many are hopeful that prices will continue to fall.
Petrol is now being sold at Le25 per liter, while diesel costs Le24 at National Petroleum (Sierra Leone) Limited (NP). Although the official government pump price remains at Le27.3, these cuts are already making a noticeable difference.
Drivers say the lower fuel prices are helping them move around town more easily and that they may be able to lower passenger fares. Many believe cheaper fuel will gradually reduce daily transport costs for everyone.
Kehkeh riders have noticed a change too. They explain that when fuel prices rise, passengers often stop boarding due to high fares. But with recent price drops, they are seeing more customers.
Some members of the public have welcomed the adjustment and are calling for even bigger cuts. One man shared his hope that prices could fall to Le10 per liter soon. Many see the recent change as a positive sign.
Others feel the fuel reduction reflects the goals of President Julius Maada Bio, especially his push to make life more affordable for ordinary citizens. They believe that if fuel prices continue to drop, it could help bring down the cost of essentials like rice and other goods.
More people are asking the government to pay closer attention and make sure all fuel stations sell fuel at the lower prices, and that prices keep going down.
The current drop follows efforts by the Native Consortium, a civil society group that has campaigned for fuel to be sold at more affordable rates. The group says fuel can be sold at Le23 without hurting profits for dealers and oil marketing companies.
May God bless Mr Edmund Abu for his selfless endeavour.
