The primordial objective of the Sierra Leone Police like any police institution in the World is to protect the lives and properties. It is against this background that the Sierra Leone Police Force (SLP), based on intelligence decided to interrogate a container allegedly containing arms and contraband substances.
Whether it is a calculated ploy to blackmail the owner(s) of the consignment by some unscrupulous persons or not is something the police proved at the end of the day. But by all indication, the Police on Monday 25th July 2022 opened the 40ft container suspected to have contained arms and contraband goods to the public view. The entire container was offloaded by police officers and soldiers but nothing harmful or illegal was discovered. This exercise has been widely acclaimed by those present, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, Officials of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Office of National Security (ONS), Anti-Corruption commission, the Media, Civil Society and any other groups and individuals.
Although the Police are yet to disclose owner of the consignment, they are however of the view that the individual or company has been very cooperative duringng the course of the investigation.
After the exercise that lasted almost the entire day of Monday the police discovered frozen chicken product that are usually sold to the public.
It could be recalled that concerns were raised over a container at Queen Elizabeth 11 Quay for which the Sierra Leone police (SLP) on the 22nd July 2022, acting on intelligence received of suspected arms and ammunition and other other Contraband good in a 40ft, container, requested the Commissioner of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) to hand over the said container to the police for examination.
Since Friday, when the alarm was raised the said container has been under police custody at the Senior Officers Mess at Kingdom in Freetown.
The SLP, which had begun preliminary Investigations into the said container, is now prepared to tell the public about its Content and dispels rumours that it had never contained arms and contraband substance.
NRA officials present are of the view that the world is in close collaboration with Sierra Leone Police in their Investigations, noting that they have wasted no time handing over the suspected container to the police after they received a letter dated 22nd July 2022.” Now that the Police have completed their Investigations we are going to follow the the right procedures that ensure that the the required revenue is collected.
