The Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Hon. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has stated that he will not join the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), after he was invited by President Julius Maada Bio to rejoin the party.
Yumkella made this statement at the NGC Hour program at AYV television.
He stated that if President Bio calls him to talk about the development of the country he will engage him, but he will not take a job from him.
“But job? Come on! I have been in Parliament for the past four years, and I have one more year to go. So what do I need again?” Yumkella opined.
“I have proved to you the citizens that I am here to stay,” he added.
The NGC leader said that he is always willing to sit down with President Bio, like he had done with former President Ernest Bai Koroma to give his honest advice.
During President Bio’s visit to Saamu chiefdom, the home town of Kandeh Kolleh Yumkellah, he pleaded for him to return to his party of origin, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
President Bio presented a green cup containing some water and a white envelope to KKY as a sign of respect, calling on him to come back home.
According to Yunkella, he joined Samu Elders to welcome President, adding that as an elder of the Chiefdom he has no option but to graced the occasion, noting that the peace and development of Sierra Leone comes first.
Kandeh Kolleh Yumkellah was one of the front runners of the presidential candidacy of the SLPP in 2017 after his return from the United Nations, where he served as undersecretary. The SLPP however chose President Bio to lead them in the 2018 elections, leading KKY to resign from the party and form his own party, the National Grand Coalition (NGC) in November 2017.
