The President of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, has congratulated President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone on his election as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority.

In a letter of congratulations, Dr. Donkor described the election as a testament to the sub-region’s confidence in President Bio’s leadership abilities.

Dr. Donkor praised President Bio’s proven record in governance and expressed optimism regarding his capacity to address significant regional challenges, including economic growth, peace, and security in West Africa. “This election reflects the strong confidence that the sub-region has in your leadership,” he stated in his letter.

The EBID, headquartered in Lomé, Togo, is a leading financial institution focused on promoting economic development across West Africa.

The bank supports vital sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and small to medium enterprises (SMEs). It plays a crucial role in fostering regional integration, bolstering the private sector, and combating poverty among ECOWAS member states.

During the 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government held in Abuja, Dr. Donkor met with President Bio to discuss collaborative opportunities.

He reaffirmed EBID’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s developmental priorities and praised the President’s leadership. “We will explore potential areas of collaboration between EBID and Sierra Leone,” Dr. Donkor noted.

President Bio’s election as ECOWAS Chairman is deemed a significant milestone for Sierra Leone, enhancing the country’s influence in regional matters.

His upcoming tenure is expected to prioritize sustainable economic development, community empowerment, and the revitalization of cultural heritage across West Africa.
