The new Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone [ECSL], Edmond Sylvester Alpha, celebrated in a jubilant way after his approval by parliament on Friday, February 27 2026.
In a viral social media video, Alpha danced in appreciation of his approval. He was dancing to a popular song titled in the country’s local dialect [Krio], ‘Tin Don Bee’, meaning ‘something has happened’.
Alpha’s approval came after several backlashes from citizens and members of the main opposition, the All People’s Congress [APC], who boycotted the approval process in parliament.
His reaction has drawn mixed reactions from the public, while others are criticising it other are in approval.

An appointment is a job given, so he is at liberty to celebrate in whatever way that aligns with our laws of this country.
