The new Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone [ECSL], Edmond Sylvester Alpha, celebrated in a jubilant way after his approval by parliament on Friday, February 27 2026.
In a viral social media video, Alpha danced in appreciation of his approval. He was dancing to a popular song titled in the country’s local dialect [Krio], ‘Tin Don Bee’, meaning ‘something has happened’.
Alpha’s approval came after several backlashes from citizens and members of the main opposition, the All People’s Congress [APC], who boycotted the approval process in parliament.
His reaction has drawn mixed reactions from the public, while others are criticising it other are in approval.

He dance because it was a plan work from the SLPP but “when you dig a pit for someone to fall in it but never forget may be you wiil be the one to fall in it”.
Dancing is unnecessary the free and fair election to prevent civil war is all that we need
An appointment is a job given, so he is at liberty to celebrate in whatever way that aligns with our laws of this country.
