Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mr. Mohamed K Konneh, yesterday Wednesday 24th August, 2022 disclosed that the commission has established about 3,630 registration Centres nationwide for the June 2023 national elections.
Mr. Mohamed Konneh, who is also the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chief Returning officer, made the disclosure at the grand launch of the Voter Registration Exercise 2022 at the new Brookfields Hotel in Freetown.
Launching the Voter Registration Exercise 2022, the chief Electoral commissioner emphasized the significance of the launch as part of the electoral cycle, noting that ECSL has the Constitutional mandate to register all eligible Sierra Leoneans, including the those-would be 18 years on the 24th June 2023, providing the person was born before 12:00a.m.
Mr. Konneh further disclosed that the Commission has procure 2,000 laptop computers for the extraction of citizens data from the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA).
According to the Chief Commissioner, pursuant to Section 23 and 24 of the public Elections Act 2021, each registration center will be opened for 15 days and will run from September 20 to October 4, 2022.
He further that the commission will open center in phases in each constituency and ward.
