The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has in a press release dated 21st January,2025 officially announced key dates for the Paramount Chief Member of Parliament (PCMP) by-election in Tonkolili District.
The vacancy follows the sudden death of PCMP Alhaji Masakama Kanamanka III of Kholifa Rowallah Chiefdom on November 8, 2024.
The ECSL made the declaration in line with its constitutional mandate under Sections 33, 72, and 74(1)(a) of the 1991 Constitution and other relevant laws, including the Public Elections Act, 2022, and the Paramount Chieftaincy Act, 2009.
Nomination of Candidates: Prospective candidates can submit their nominations from Thursday, February 20, to Friday, February 21, 2025. The process will take place at the ECSL District Office, 5 Boys School Road, Magburaka Town, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Polling Day: The by-election is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The ECSL emphasized the importance of these dates and urged all stakeholders, including aspiring candidates, political parties, and the public, to adhere to the timelines and regulations governing the election process.
This by-election is expected to fill the vacancy left by the late Paramount Chief Alhaji Masakama Kanamanka III, who passed away suddenly in November 2024, leaving the position unoccupied.
The ECSL reassures the public of its commitment to a transparent, free, and fair electoral process.
I hope that the outcome of the election would reflect the expectation
of the people of the Chiefdom and not for any personal benefits of Party fundamentalism.
