The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has officially joined the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission (EOM) in the Republic of Benin, ahead of the country’s high-stakes presidential election scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The delegation, representing Sierra Leone’s commitment to regional democratic stability, is part of a broader effort by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to ensure a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process in the French-speaking nation.
Representing the ECSL is the Director of Legal Affairs, Fatorma Fah-Bundeh Esq., who has joined a diverse team of regional observers. The mission is being led by a prominent African statesman, the former President of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The mission commenced in Cotonou on Friday, April 10, with an inaugural briefing for Short-Term Observers (STOs).
The observers have since been deployed across various regions of Benin. Their presence is viewed as a critical safeguard for democratic integrity as Beninese citizens prepare to elect a successor to the outgoing President.
An ECSL representative noted that participating in such missions allows for the exchange of best practices and strengthens the collective goal of promoting good governance across West Africa.
