The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) held a crucial meeting with a joint delegation of international guarantors on Thursday, discussing the ongoing implementation of the ‘Agreement of National Unity’.

The delegation, which included representatives from ECOWAS, the African Union, UNOWAS, and the Commonwealth, convened at the ECSL conference room in Tower Hill for the follow-up mission.

Chief Electoral Commissioner Mohamed Kenewui Konneh welcomed the delegation, led by former Vice President of The Gambia, Her Excellency Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General. Konneh provided an update on the ECSL’s progress in implementing the tripartite recommendations aimed at fostering national unity following recent political tensions in the country.

He emphasized the ECSL’s commitment to fulfilling the recommendations that fall within its mandate, assuring the delegation that the Commission remains dedicated to the peace and unity process.

In response, the international leaders praised the ECSL for its strides in addressing the recommendations and reaffirmed their support for continued collaboration towards national stability.

This meeting marks a key step in Sierra Leone’s efforts to ensure political cohesion and democratic integrity, as the country works towards fully realizing the goals outlined in the Agreement of National Unity.
