The newly appointed Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone, Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha, has formally appeared before the Committee on Appointments and Public Service in Parliament, presenting what he described as a clear and structured vision for the future of the country’s electoral management body.
During his engagement with lawmakers, Mr. Alpha emphasized professionalism, accountability, and institutional renewal as the pillars that will define his tenure. He assured the committee that his leadership would be grounded in integrity, transparency, and strict adherence to internationally recognized electoral standards.
Drawing on over two decades of service within the Electoral Commission, Mr. Alpha highlighted his deep institutional knowledge and operational experience. He also referenced his decade-long academic contribution at Njala University, noting that the combination of practical field expertise and scholarly engagement uniquely positions him to spearhead meaningful reforms.
According to Mr. Alpha, restoring and strengthening public confidence in Sierra Leone’s electoral processes remains a top priority. He pledged to promote innovation, improve administrative efficiency, and reinforce compliance mechanisms to ensure credibility at every stage of the electoral cycle.
His appearance before the parliamentary committee marks a significant step in the confirmation process, as stakeholders across the political spectrum closely watch the direction the Commission will take under new leadership.
