The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a major power disruption affecting several communities in Freetown as part of ongoing maintenance works.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Authority said it has begun a 13-day “inspection and corrective maintenance” exercise on the 33kV transmission line linking the Kingtom and Wilberforce substations. The work, which started this weekend, is expected to continue until September 13.
According to EDSA, the maintenance will affect 14 communities, including Spur Road, Wilberforce, Imatt, Regent, Barthurst, Lumley, Atlantic Beach, Regent Road, Sheriff Drive, Malama, Pentagon, Juba, Goderich, Adonkia, Mambo, and Sussex.
“Customers in these areas are encouraged to plan their activities accordingly,” the release stated, adding that outages will be minimised where possible to ensure a continued supply of electricity.
EDSA assured residents that the maintenance is necessary to improve the reliability of power distribution in the city.
The announcement comes as a disappointing news, especially for residents of Regent Road. One resident of Cordelia Drive, Off Regent Road in Lumley, expressed disappointment over the announcement. “It’s over a week now with no electricity in my community, and this news is just disappointing from EDSA,” the resident said. She concluded by adding that the company does consider them as customers.
