In a devastating turn of events, the Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA) claims that the rationing of electricity supply in Kenema is caused by several robberies of cables and transformers.

The Police in Kenema have already apprehended two suspects for a series of robberies that compel the rationing of electricity in the district.

The Station Engineer for EDSA in Kenema, reported that rampant theft has turned into a significant threat to the region’s electrical infrastructure, with thieves targeting cables and transformers. This wave of criminal activity has led to frequent and unpredictable power outages across the district.

In a press conference, Sanu detailed the extent of the robberies affecting local power supply. He noted that at the Tongo Field in the Lower Bambara Chiefdom, most installations have been vandalized, leaving many transformers unrepaired.

At the Norway Amputee camp along the Kenema-Kailahun highway near Tissor village, thieves stole essential components, including earth wires, a main breaker, and load cables, severely disrupting operations at the site.

One suspect from Hangha Town, who was reportedly seen by an eyewitness, is currently at large after abandoning some stolen items during his escape.

The Nyandeyama section has also suffered significant vandalism, with missing load cables and breakers reported at one substation. Additionally, the main breaker at the Momoh Gortoh Street substation has allegedly been stolen, while the load cable from the Dauda Town substation, located near Makelo guest house, has vanished.

Even the substation supplying continuous electricity to the presidential lodge at the Reservation Area is affected, plunging the entire vicinity into darkness.

In response to the ongoing crisis, EDSA has implemented a rationing schedule, alternating between six and twelve-hour electricity availability.

Mr. Sanu dismissed allegations suggesting that EDSA staff might be complicit in the thefts, asserting that all apprehended suspects have no connection to the organization.
