The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a series of upcoming power interruptions affecting several substations in Freetown due to significant technical issues.
These repairs are essential to maintain a reliable electricity supply for residents.
On April 14, 2025, EDSA reported multiple critical faults across the Freetown. At the daily mail Substation, a heavy blast on the Upper LV feeder has triggered ongoing repairs, which are expected to be resolved by April 15. Meanwhile, the Savage Square Substation is facing challenges due to a severely deteriorated LV panel, with repairs anticipated to be completed by April 17.
At the Mountain cut Substation, a rotten MV wooden pole has been identified, and repair work is scheduled for April 16. The Collegiate School Substation requires urgent attention to a burnt LV cable and cable lug, with resolution expected by April 14. Similarly, the Foamex Substation will address damage involving burnt cables by April 15.
Further investigations are necessary along the ABC MV cable at Country Lodge due to ongoing earth faults, with a resolution anticipated by April 15. Additionally, a cut MV wire on the Guma MV feeder at the May Drive Substation* is expected to be fixed by April 14.
Investigations into permanent tripping on the main LV circuit breaker at the Kamayama 2 Substation are currently underway, with completion expected by April 15. Frequent tripping issues have also been reported at the WarAR Wounded Substation in Grafton, with repairs scheduled for April 15. Lastly, a blown expulsion fuse at the Hotel Bamoi Substation is being addressed, with repairs expected by April 14.
