The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has raised concerns over the growing refusal of electricity consumers to pay their bills, warning that the trend is threatening Sierra Leone’s power supply system.
In an exclusive interview with AYV, EDSA’s Communications Manager, Sahr Nepor, said a significant number of customers—particularly large-scale users—are failing to meet their payment obligations.
“It will interest you to know that more than half of our large energy consumers are not paying the appropriate energy bills,” Nepor revealed.
He explained that the Authority relies heavily on revenue from electricity bills to sustain operations, maintain infrastructure, and expand distribution networks. Nepor warned that the growing culture of non-payment poses a serious risk to the country’s ability to deliver reliable electricity services.
EDSA has urged all consumers to settle their bills promptly, emphasizing that collective responsibility is crucial to ensuring a stable and sustainable national power supply.
The Authority’s warning comes as Sierra Leone seeks to improve access to electricity, a key component of the country’s broader development agenda.










EDSA you are just trying to find excuses because you are filling, how can you say over rising non payment of electricity bills wherein people by top-up before they light or is it that the system of the top-up is no more working?

Does EDSA want to tell us that they are still supplying electricity energy on post paid, whereby customers pay later – instead of pre-paid where the customer pay before he have light.
If so be it, that EDSA is still giving light on Post Paid then they ( EDSA ) have themselves to blame.
