The Minister of Energy, Cyril Arnod Grant, has commended the innovative, technology-driven partnership between the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) during the official launch of the EDSA WhatsApp Fault Reporting Chatbot.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Grant affirmed the strategic importance of the digital platform, noting that it is designed to significantly improve service delivery within the electricity sector. He explained that the chatbot will provide customers with a fast and accessible means of reporting a wide range of electricity-related issues.
According to the Minister, the platform enables users to quickly report concerns such as low voltage, fallen poles and cables, power tripping, vandalism of electricity infrastructure, faulty meters, and other related incidents.
“This is the first system that has been built in Africa,” Mr Grant stated. “The platform will help customers reliably and urgently communicate with EDSA with respect to issues surrounding electricity. We have made the platform accessible and available to all.”
The initiative notably marks a major step in leveraging digital technology to enhance public service delivery, strengthen customer engagement, and improve response times to electricity faults across the country.
Officials affirmed that the collaboration between EDSA and DSTI reflects the government’s broader commitment to innovation and the use of technology to address critical infrastructure challenges in Sierra Leone.
