The Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone (ETU, SL) on Friday, January 9, 2026, formally inaugurated its newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) officials for the 2025/2026 academic year at a ceremony held at the Ahmad Tejan Kabba Hall on the main campus in Kenema.

The event brought together students, members of the university’s management, invited dignitaries, and representatives of various student bodies, marking the official commencement of a new student leadership administration.

Activities commenced with a ceremonial procession that began at Cee Curve on Blama Road and made its way to the main campus. The procession, which symbolized continuity and unity in student governance, was led by the SUG President, Mariame Baimba Keita, and Vice President, Umaru Konneh, alongside cabinet members dressed in official regalia.

In her inaugural address, President Mariame Baimba Keita outlined the priorities of the new administration, emphasizing transparency, inclusivity, and dedicated service to the student body.

She highlighted plans to strengthen student welfare, enhance academic support systems, and promote constructive engagement with university authorities in addressing student-related concerns.

The ceremony also featured the formal swearing-in of the Vice President, cabinet members, and other SUG officials, officially ushering in a new phase of student leadership at the institution.

Goodwill messages were delivered by university administrators, invited guests, and student leaders, who collectively underscored the importance of responsible leadership, collaboration, and accountability in advancing the interests of students and supporting the university’s broader academic mission.

The inauguration was widely viewed as a demonstration of democratic practice within the university community, reaffirming the commitment of ETU, SL to participatory governance.
