The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), with support from Leh Wi Lan, held a meeting on September 25, 2025, uniting all stakeholders involved in the public examination processes for NPSE, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This inclusive gathering brought together representatives from the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU), CPSS, Deputy Directors of Education from all 16 districts, the Teaching Service Commission, and West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

Mamusu Murana, the Deputy Minister 2, during the engagement emphasized the importance of candid and respectful dialogue among all participants. She also outlined the critical issues confronting the education sector and urged each institution to embrace accountability.

She highlighted alarming concerns, such as the fabrication of names for non-school-going pupils and the duplication of candidates’ names within the same school or across multiple schools, while also emphasizing the financial implications for the government. Madam Murana called for a collaborative effort to address these leakages, enabling the timely payment of school subsidies and other pressing educational issues.

Furthermore, Mr. Edward M. Kpakra, the Chairman and Chief Education Officer (CEO), facilitated conversations focused on vital topics, including the implementation of the new curriculum and the collaborative roles of SLTU, CPSS, MBSSE, and WAEC in ensuring the efficient conduct of public examinations.

“We are committed to creating an inclusive environment, free from the exclusion of eligible candidates, inflation of examination lists, and malpractice’’ he said.

The meeting’s outcomes revealed a shared resolve to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of the examination processes.

An official press release will be forthcoming, detailing updates on the New Curriculum and the timelines for uploading of the Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) into the WAEC Portals for the 2026 public examinations.
