First Lady of Sierra Leone, Madam Fatima Maada Bio, has been awarded the Just Right Champion of Change Award at a high-level event on child marriage, organized by Just Right for Children (JRC), on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City.
In her acceptance remarks, Madam Bio described the recognition as both a personal honor and a call to action, stressing the urgent need to end child marriage and safeguard the rights, dignity, and future of children worldwide.

She underscored that child marriage strips girls of their education, health, and equal opportunities in life, and urged international collaboration to confront such harmful practices.
“Sierra Leone remains committed to advancing the welfare and protection of children,” the First Lady said, reaffirming her dedication to work with global partners in building a future where every child can thrive free from violence, discrimination, and abuse.
The award highlights her longstanding advocacy and leadership in championing child rights and amplifying the global fight against child marriage.
