Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, Sierra Leone’s First Lady, hosted a prominent delegation from Goal International at her Goderich office, including esteemed board members from Goal Sierra Leone in the UK and Ireland.
During the meeting, Her Excellency updated the delegation on her five-year tenure, highlighting successes such as the “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign and the establishment of a dedicated court for rape victims.
Notably, they discussed the construction of the 34 Military Hospital, a 600-bed project to be handed over to Sierra Leone soon.
The First Lady also announced her intention to commemorate November 18th as the “World Day for the Prevention of, and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence.” She lauded the Gender Empowerment Act’s positive impact and expressed gratitude for the delegation’s visit.
In response, Mr. James Riak, GOAL Sierra Leone’s Country Director, commended the First Lady’s dedication to women and girls’ safety and highlighted the alignment between their efforts and her initiatives. He assured continued support and partnership.
This meeting reaffirms their commitment to gender equality and the well-being of women and girls, representing a collaborative effort for positive change in Sierra Leone and beyond.
