The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Bio has been chosen by the United Nations to lead the Official International Women’s Day commemoration on March 8, 2024.
The event, to be held at Teacher’s College, Columbia University in New York City, will celebrate the achievements of women and spotlight the ongoing fight for gender equality. International Women’s Day is a global platform recognizing women’s social, economic, cultural, and political contributions. It serves as a call to action for accelerating progress towards gender parity, with numerous activities and rallies occurring worldwide.
This year, Fatima Bio will be the keynote speaker on the world stage, representing a significant honor for Sierra Leone. She is currently on her way to New York and expressed her excitement on social media, saying, “Join us to celebrate the power of women globally. New York, I am on my way.”
