The Chief Executive Officer of the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) Abdul M. Fatoma on Friday, 24th March 2023 accomplished a five-day short course with Harvard University Kennedy School in the United States on Negotiation Strategies: Building Agreement Across Boundaries.
Fatoma is a highly-celebrated civil rights advocate in Sierra Leone and on the global stage achieved the landmark short course together with top government officials across the globe including; senior government officials from the United States, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria, also a university lecturer in the United States of America, and trade union members from Canada.
However, Abdul M.Fatoma revealed that, the class with the former Ecuador president and also a lawyer Jorge Jamil Mahuad Witt was his remarkable moment during the course
“My major takeaway was the class with Jamil Mahuad a former president of Ecuador, during the session, he shared with us his experience in the 1998 Brasilia Peace Agreement, which ended a territorial dispute between Ecuador and Peru that, due to the size and location of the contested area, had remained a source of regional instability and continental tensions for decades. Very valuable and productive week. It was a great programme,” he opined.
Abdul M. Fatoma is also the Team Lead of the Election Conflict Prevention and Mediation Working Group (ECPMG) which comprises four institutions including The Eminent Women Peace Mediators Sierra Leone, Inter-Religious Council of Sierra Leone, CHRDI, and ECSL that has achieved the successful outcome of twenty-two by-elections across Sierra Leone neither any violence nor court litigation after it was established in 2020 and recently organised pre-election conflict prevention and mediation engagements in Freetown, Bo, Kenema, and Makeni as part of the ways in ensuring the peaceful outcome of June 24th, 2023 elections in Sierra Leone.
