A raging fire tore through several bars and restaurants at Levuma Beach in the early hours of Saturday, leaving behind a trail of destruction in one of Freetown’s most vibrant entertainment hubs.

The blaze, which engulfed the area before dawn, was captured live by journalist Marina Terry, who described the unfolding chaos as “a scary sight.”

No casualties have been reported by Saturday evening.

While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, the devastation has left residents and business owners in shock. Many are now calling on authorities to urgently uncover what sparked the inferno.

Located on the outskirts of Western Freetown, Levuma Beach is a bustling weekend hotspot, known for its beachfront bars, local cuisine, and lively nightlife.

The area has since been sealed off as investigations continue.

Fire outbreaks in the thick of the wet season is uncommon in Sierra Leone. Most fire outbreaks peak during December and January when the dusty dry harmattan wind sweeps through the country.

As things are slowly returning to normal in the community, one thing is clear, Levuma’s flame didn’t just light the beach; it’s ignited calls for answers.
