John Oponjoe Benjamin, former National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has criticized the Bio-led administration and warned against using youths as political experiments.
Speaking on AYV’s Wake Up Salone programme, Benjamin expressed concern over the nation’s healthcare system, saying Sierra Leoneans continue to travel abroad for medical treatment. “By now, we should have well-equipped medical facilities available to everyone, even at the regional level, and these should be sustained at all times,” he said. “These are basic services, and we have the resources. We are no longer at war; we are at peace. These challenges we face are unacceptable.”
Benjamin further criticized the SLPP government, which has been in power for nearly eight years, for failing to deliver on critical national priorities, particularly in health. “The health system under our party’s leadership is deplorable, leaving citizens to seek proper medical care abroad,” he said.
The former party chairman also cautioned against positioning young people as the party’s flagbearer, arguing that they should not be used as political experiments. He stressed that the country is already behind in essential development and cannot afford further delays.
