The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced a significant reduction in power supply across Freetown due to a sudden technical fault affecting the synchronization of the Bumbuna and Karpower systems.
The issue has disrupted the normal generation capacity, leaving the authority unable to distribute electricity at its usual levels.
In a public notice issued today, EDSA revealed that the problem was identified as a synchronization fault between the Bumbuna hydroelectric plant and the Karpower supply system. As a temporary measure, power is being partially restored using generators from the Kingtom Power House and limited supply from Karpower.
However, residents should expect a noticeable drop in their regular power supply until repairs are completed.
The authority has assured the public that repair and maintenance works are scheduled for Sunday, 2nd March 2025, with the aim of resolving the issue and restoring normal supply as quickly as possible. During this period, EDSA has pledged to ensure an equitable distribution of the available power to all customers.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and are working tirelessly to restore full service,” said EDSA management in the notice. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued customers as we strive to improve our services.”
Residents are advised to prepare for intermittent power supply until the issue is fully resolved.
They don’t even try anymore when they lie. They just open their mouth and let anything come out. What kind of coincidence is this that both Karpower and Bumbuna are having technical issues at the same time? It is also February, well into the dry season. We are not getting much power from Bumbuna to begin with. Stop with the lies. When a country can not provide such a basic service, we are useless. Maada Bio the cocaine president said he was going to fix the problem did he not. He hasn’t fixed it in almost seven years, he isn’t going to fix it in the remaining three.
