The late Dr. Kadi Sesay, one of Sierra Leone’s most revered scholars, public servants, and gender rights champions, former Vice Presidential candidate of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, and former Minister of Trade and Industry, will be laid to rest in Freetown following her final journey home from the United States.

State House Communications director Myk Berewa confirm that her remains will depart New York City on Monday, July 14, arriving in Freetown on Wednesday, July 16 at 5:25 PM via Brussels Airlines flight SN0241.

As part of national mourning arrangements, the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs will host a memorial symposium on Thursday, July 17, in celebration of Dr. Sesay’s lifelong contributions to education, gender equality, and national development.

On Friday, July 18, a state-led civic ceremony and lying-in-state will be held to honor her legacy as a pioneer in public service. Later that evening, her remains will be escorted to her family residence at 80 Regent Road, Hill Station, for Islamic prayers, after which she will lie in repose at the Hill Station mosque overnight.

Final burial rites will take place on Saturday, July 19, beginning with family prayers at her Hill Station residence, followed by funeral prayers at the mosque.

Dr. Sesay will then be interred at the Wilberforce Cemetery, marking the close of a chapter in Sierra Leone’s history shaped by her exceptional intellect, courage, and service.
