The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Isata Mahoi, has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to improving child health and nutrition during a high-level joint field visit to Port Loko District.
The visit, conducted in collaboration with United Nations agencies, Government officials, and donor partners, took the delegation to the Mange Bureh Community Health Centre, where ongoing interventions aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of children and families were assessed.
During the visit, Dr. Mahoi engaged with frontline health workers, Community Health Workers (CHWs), and Mother Support Groups who are providing essential, lifesaving services at both facility and community levels. These services include maternal and newborn care, as well as the treatment and management of acute malnutrition.

Commending their dedication and resilience, the Minister emphasized the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening child protection and welfare systems across the country.
She also interacted with mothers and their infants, observing exclusive breastfeeding practices and underscoring their importance in ensuring child survival and healthy development. Dr. Mahoi highlighted the role of simple, evidence-based interventions in reducing child mortality and improving long-term health outcomes.
The Minister further stressed that sustained investment in child health, nutrition, and family support systems remains critical to Sierra Leone’s national development agenda.

The visit also demonstrated the Government’s strong partnership with UNICEF and other development partners, reinforcing a shared commitment to safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of every child.
Dr. Mahoi’s presence, stakeholders noted, reflects a renewed national focus on ensuring that every child in Sierra Leone not only survives but thrives.
