The Revolutionary United Front’s (RUF) Gibril Ealoghima Massaquoi is set to face a retrial in Liberia and Sierra Leone in February this year.
This comes after the former rebel commander was tried in an Appeal’s Court after being acquitted in April last year by a lower court in Finland.
The former warlord was arrested in 2020 to answer to war crimes perpetrated in both Sierra Leonean and Liberian civil wars.
Massaquoi is accused of murder, rape, recruitment of child soldiers and other war crimes in Sierra Leone and Liberia when he was a senior commander in the RUF.
The former RUF Commander is one of the few alleged perpetrators that have gone unscathed in a war that led to the death of thousands of civilians and destruction of properties in the two Mano River Union countries.
