The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Health, has commenced the construction of a modern $3.5 million faculty building at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) in Kossoh Town, marking a historic first in direct government investment in the institution.
The new facility, which is expected to be completed by March 2026, is designed to accommodate up to 1,500 students per session. It will house five state-of-the-art laboratories, along with office spaces for the Dean, Heads of Departments, and lecturers aimed at significantly strengthening teaching, research, and administrative operations at COMAHS.

According to the Ministry of Health, the project forms part of the government’s broader agenda to expand training capacity for health professionals and improve the overall quality of medical education in Sierra Leone.
Officials note that the investment is a reflection of the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery through sustainable, long-term human resource development.

The Ministry also highlighted that the new building is one of many transformative initiatives implemented over the past seven years to support the health sector.
Once completed, the COMAHS faculty facility is expected to greatly enhance academic infrastructure and contribute to producing a more robust and well-trained health workforce for the nation.
