The Government of Sierra Leone has through the National Youth Commission disbursed over 1.8 Billion Leone to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Member, as stipends of Corps Members from January through to June 2021.
This was according to a press statement released from the office of the National Youth Service in Freetown.
The release reads as follow;
Payment of Stipend to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Members Wednesday 7 July 2021
The National Youth Service (NYS) wishes to inform the general public that the New Direction Government of H. E. President Julius Maada Bio along with one of its development partners, the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) has through the Ministries of Finance, disbursed a total of One Billion, Eight Hundred and Sixty-Eighty Million, Four Hundred Thousand Leones (Le. 1,868, 400, 000) to the National Youth Service (NYS) for onward payment of stipends to Corps Members from January through to June 2021.
The said amount has been forwarded by the Bank of Sierra Leone to the Rokel Commercial Bank who has accordingly deposited it into the personal accounts of the third batch of corps members of the 2021 NYS recruits.
As a hard-working Agency with a determination to continue with the implementation of the NYS scheme, we would like to, on behalf of our corps members, thank H. E. President Julius Maada Bio and the UNDP and the ministers of Finance and Youth Affairs respectively for their continuous and relentless support to the NYS scheme.
Additionally, the Executive Director of the NYS would also like to appreciate NYS servicemen and women for their steadfastness and courage to continue serving irrespective of the numerous challenges faced while trying to work out modalities to open their bank accounts and get their stipends paid.
NYS wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to seeking and ensuring the welfare of its corps members at all times.
